What a math checker does that a solver doesn't

A solver answers the question. A math checker answers a different one: is what I already wrote correct, and if not, where did it break? That distinction matters, because on graded work the final answer is worth a fraction of the points — the working is the rest.

Math.Photos checks at step level. Instead of "wrong", you get "line 3 dropped the negative when you distributed" — which is the information that stops you making the same mistake on the test.

How to use the mathchecker

1. Do the problem first. The check is only useful if there's real work to check.
2. Capture all of your steps, not just the boxed answer — a photo of your notebook page, a whiteboard, or a screenshot of an online assignment.
3. Confirm what it read. The transcription appears before the verdict, so a misread 7 never turns into a wrong grade.
4. Read the diff. It marks the first line that stops following from the one above it, and explains the rule you skipped.

What gets checked

• Arithmetic and sign errors — the dropped negative, the subtraction that ran the wrong way.
• Algebraic validity — whether each line actually follows from the previous one.
• Exponent and fraction scope — -3² vs (-3)², and how far your fraction bar reached.
• Copying errors between lines — the coefficient that silently changed between line 4 and line 5.
• The final answer, in the form the question asked for: exact radical vs decimal, simplified vs not.

Checking handwritten work

Most work that needs checking is handwritten, which is why this is a photo tool rather than a text box. Is using a math checker cheating?
